The Washington Nationals requested unconditional release waivers on infielder/outfielder Dee Strange-Gordon on Sunday after he was designated for assignment last week.

Strange-Gordon, 34, was making his return to the major leagues this season after only playing in Triple-A for three separate organizations last season.

A veteran of 11 major league seasons, Strange-Gordon batted .305 this season with three stolen bases, but did not have a walk, leaving him with a .305 on-base percentage. He had just two extra-base hits in 59 at-bats, while playing three different positions on defense and even pitching in a game.

Strange-Gordon won the National League batting title in 2015 when he batted .333 for the Miami Marlins.

Strange-Gordon is a career .286 hitter with 538 runs scored and 336 stolen bases for the Los Angeles Dodgers (2011-14), Marlins (2015-17), Seattle Mariners (2018-20) and Nationals. The son of longtime major league pitcher Tom Gordon signed with Washington in December on a minor league deal.
