Fort Lauderdale News.Net Saturday 28th January, 2012
An attack on a polling station has occurred in India.
The station, which was packed with voters, was located in India's northeastern state of Manipur in Thangpi village, about 70 kilometers south of the state capital Imphal.
The gunmen, described by police as separatist rebels, who have been fighting for decades for an independent homeland, entered the building where voting was taking place and took shots at individual voting booths where people were marking their ballot papers.
Three election officials, a policeman and a civilian were killed.
Tens of thousands of security forces have been deployed at voting stations throughout Manipur state for elections to the state legislature.
